Blagojevich quotes If

A (probably justifiably) very nervous Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, in his first public statement following accusations that he was attempting to “sell” to the highest bidder the senator seat being vacated by President-Elect Barack Obama, quotes the opening lines to Rudyard Kipling’s poem “If” to illustrate him defending his own innocence.

Joni Mitchell adapted the poem into a song of the same title for her most recent album Shine, which was released last year. It’s interesting to note the changes in language she made from the original.

Rod is definitely quoting Rudyard’s original poem and not Joni’s adaptation.

i’m hoping Blagojevich will inspire Congress to finally grow a pair and start doing what’s best for the people they represent (by putting this guy away for a long time)
