KBS Radio in Canada has an article on James Taylor and the “indie route” he’s taken for his new album Covers.
“I think one of the things that’s good about having a label like Hear Music is that you got used to this thing with the major labels that if it wasn’t going to sell two million copies, they didn’t think it was worth their while. Y’know, an album can easily be profitable (and) pay for itself, selling 50,000 copies — selling 20,000 copies — where that is an adequate return. It’s just crazy that everything has to be a lowest common denominator — a ‘home run’ — in order to be worth putting it out. That’s… just no service to music whatsoever.”
