Buzzine likes Covers

Buzzine has posted a brief review of James Taylor’s Covers, which will be released next week.

[T]his is his first set of all covers, and the material — country, blues and R&B — is transformed into that warm blanket Taylor-style. This doesn’t work for every song, though most of them are nice interpretations, especially Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away,” The Drifters (hey, it worked before) “On Broadway,” and Leonard Cohen’s lush “Suzanne.” He gets lively for George Jones’s “Why Baby Why” and Eddie Cochran’s “Summertime Blues.” Ulimately, it’s all distilled into that distinctive James Taylor sound.
