Weekend Viewing

Added to YouTube within the last week:

Local Denver blues musician Lionel Young joined James Taylor and his Band of Legends on stage for an extended version of “Hound Dog” on August 6, 2008 at the Red Rocks Amphitheater. Other featured soloists include Michael Landau, Larry Goldings, “Blue” Lou Marini and Walt Fowler.

From the vaults:

Carly Simon performs “Be With Me” on Sesame Street circa 1980. The song originally appeared on Another Passenger and then again on the Grammy-winning Sesame Street record In Harmony. Here’s a higher quality version from SesameStreet.org.

Yusuf performs “Father and Son” (from his Cat Stevens days) on a recent BBC One Sessions special.

Here’s a clip from the BBC special “Joni Mitchell Sings Joni Mitchell” from the In Concert series, originally broadcast October 9, 1970. Here she sings “Big Yellow Taxi”.

Jackson Browne sings “I’m Alive” solo from an undated television appearance:

And finally, I’d like to start featuring covers found on YouTube from people you probably don’t know. There are a lot of talented musicians out there without any kind of record contract. For example, here’s a talented duo from Mexico with the YouTube user name of alph1998 doing a cover of Carole King’s “You’ve Got A Friend” on ukulele. This is take 1; they stumble at the bridge and cut the song short, but it has great potential.
