Jackson Browne performs “Lives In The Balance” and “The Drums Of War” in the upcoming documentary The People Speak. Inspired by historian Howard Zinn’s book A People’s History of the United States, the film features the words of resistance from figures both remembered and forgotten by history, brought back to life by accomplished actors like Marisa Tomei, Danny Glover and Sean Penn. Songs of resistance are performed by musicians such as Jackson Browne, Randy Newman and John Legend.
A preview of the film will be screened at Indiana University’s ArtsWeek 2009 on Tuesday, February 24, at 7:30 PM, at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater in Bloomington, Indiana. Directors Anthony Arnove and Chris Moore, as well as actor Michael Ealy will also be there for a conversation with the audience. See this press release for more information.
The film is also getting screened at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City tomorrow night at 7:00 PM, as part of MoMA’s Documentary Fortnight 2009 showcase.
